Trevor Zegras' play style may come under plenty of criticism throughout the season, but at this point, it's hard to deny the impact he's had on youth hockey players and bringing attention to the Anaheim Ducks.
Future up in the air
Despite all of this and gracing the cover of NHL 23, the Ducks and Zegras are yet to come to terms on a long-term deal, and know we may possibly know why.
In 180 games with the Ducks, Zegras has tallied 49 goals and 139 points, and is key to the future of the team, but according to Frank Seravalli, the most likely outcome in Anaheim is a bridge deal.
The more likely outcome at this point is that the Ducks and star forward Trevor Zegras will agree to a short- to mid-term bridge deal.
Zegras' market value for a long-term deal is estimated around $8M AAV. If this figure doesn't work for either side, a short-term agreement would probably be around $5M AAV.
A bridge deal for a young star
After giving a long-term deal to Troy Terry, it's surprising to see the Ducks not wanting to keep Zegras around long-term, but at least it appears they want him for the foreseeable future.
In a recent interview, Zegras said he won't step foot in California again until some type of deal is reached, so now it appears he may have to deal with a short-term contract if that is the case.
