It turn out that the greatest hockey player of all time wished he could have played for an additional team during his career.

Wayne Gretzky has stated that he wished he could have played for the Buffalo Sabres during his legendary NHL career.

The GOAT in Buffalo?

Wayne Gretzky said "I can still remember thinking 'gosh I wish I could one day wear that Buffalo Sabres Jersey'."

This is surprising news given that the Gretzky hasn't played in the NHL since 1999, and that the Sabres have long been considered a laughingstock of the NHL.

A reasonable explanation is that Gretzky may have wanted to play with the vaunted 'French Connection' of Gilbert Perrault and Rick Martin that the Sabres employed during the '70s and 80's.

But the duo never won a Cup with Buffalo, falling short to the 'Broad Street Bullies' Philadelphia Flyers in 1975. Maybe the addition of Gretzky would help them bring a Cup to Upstate New York.

The high-scoring French duo would have broken numerous records if the played with Gretzky, the most dominant NHLer ever.

Unmatched Dominance

Gretzky is the consensus best NHLer of all-time, holding many NHL records including the most goals, assists and points in NHL history.

If you magically deleted all of Gretzky's goals, his assists totals would still hold the record for most points all-time.

Gretzky finished his NHL career with 894 goals, 1963 assists and 2857 points.
