Wayne Gretzky Shares His Thoughts on the Maple Leafs Off-Season
Wayne Gretzky has some interesting words regarding the Maple Leafs off-season and specifically the signing of Max Domi.
Domi Signs In Toronto
Max Domi has a very high upside among free-agent signings. He decided to sign in Toronto because it was his hometown team and a fresh start for him. His father Tie was a legendary enforcer whom the Leafs faithful endear.
Now Max, more of a point scorer but still a pest, will have a shot with the Maple Leafs. Ideally, he plays with Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews considering how he was a junior hockey linemate with Marner.
There is so much to love about this signing for Domi and the Maple Leafs and it has led to The Great One reacting to the move.
Gretzky's Reaction
Wayne Gretzky reacted to the Domi signing and offered a lot of insight on what was happening behind the scenes.
"One of the things that I'm really impressed with is that Max had some 2-3 year offers to go to other cities, and he chose, in his heart, 'I'm going to go there [Toronto], I'm going to take a little bit less money, I want to be a Leaf and show people that I can earn another contract,' and that's what you want as an organization.
You want your guys to be hungry, right? And good for Max. I think he's going to do great in Toronto... I think this is a really nice signing not only for Max but also for the Maple Leafs." - Wayne Gretzky
This is fantastic to hear because it means not only will Domi come with a vengeance but he will come with a love for the city. Many stars are not that excited to wear a Maple Leafs sweater but this seems like something Domi will be willing to do night in and night out and make his city proud while doing so.
