Massive undrafted defenseman set to join NHL team in the coming days
Every year, NHL teams sign free agent players out of various leagues including the CHL and NCAA. Another source of free agents is Europe. Now Czech defenseman Mikulas Hovorka is reportedly joining the NHL.
According to the elite prospects transfer portal, Hovorka is set to sign with an NHL club in the coming days. The 6'6" 22-year-old defenseman has five goals and 16 points in 51 games at the Czech pro league level this season.
According to one public analytics model, Horvorka has been among the best defenders in the Czech league this season. He has consistently driven strong results at both ends of the ice. Considering this fact and his massive size, it is no wonder that NHL general managers are interested in him.
(The following has been translated from Czech)
Mikulá Hovorka is a treasure for @HC_Motor. Young, excellent defender. I already indicated last year that he deserves a chance in the national team. He deserves an invitation to at least one EHT this season. So far, the TOP10 defenders of the season in our model @DenikSport.
This news from the elite prospects transfer portal lines up with reports from earlier in the week that indicated that Hovorka would be coming to North America. Reportedly, about half the teams in the NHL have expressed interest in the towering Czech defender.
One of the top overseas free agents this summer is a young, 6'6" defenseman attracting interest from nearly half the league:
We should know more about Hovorka's fate in the coming days. Be sure to stay tuned to see where he signs.
