Today the NHL lost one of the game's great tough guys of the 90s and 2000s. After the player's passing was announced a current agent blamed Gary Bettman for his death. This has led to major outrage online from fans.

Former NHL Enforcer Passes Away At Age 52

This afternoon the passing of former NHL tough guy Chris Simon was announced. Simon suddenly passed away at age 52.

Sad news: Former NHL enforcer Chris Simon has died at age 52.

The Wawa, Ont., native racked up 1,824 PIM and 101 fighting majors in his 15-year NHL career. Simon won a Stanley Cup with the #Avs in 1996 and made Finals appearances with WSH and CGY.

Simon's children, family and friends are grieving his sudden loss.

Since the announcement from Frank Seravalli regarding Simon's passing one agent has gone on a tirade against Commissioner Gary Bettman.

NHL Agent Blames Bettman For Simon's Death

Simon was an enforcer throughout his career and agent Allan Walsh is disgusted that the NHL refuses to acknowledge what fighting and concussions can lead to later in life.

I'm angry and devastated at such a senseless tragedy. 101 fighting majors and Gary Bettman still denies the cumulative effects of repetitive head impacts. There is retired NHL players blood on Gary's hands. My condolences and sympathies to Chris' family and friends.

As of now, it has not been announced whether Simon's passing has to do with the style of play he had in the NHL. One thing is for certain the NHL and the players association need to do a better job of protecting their players' health both during their careers and in retirement.

We wish the best to Chris Simon's friends and family as they navigate a difficult time in the days after his unexpected passing.
