Despite their late arrival in Edmonton the night before the game, the Panthers appeared to be the fresher and more energized team as they took an early 1-0 lead in game three. The Oilers would respond with a goal from Warren Foegele to tie things up, but the Panthers would later add three more for a 4-1 lead. The Oilers pressed late, but the comeback fell short, leading to a 4-3 Panthers win.
While Connor McDavid appears to not be 100% healthy, he continues to contribute on the scoresheet as he recorded two assists in the game. Leon Draisaitl however, failed to record a point once again. Performing well in the playoffs has become part of his reputation, so this setback is particularly troubling for both the team and Leon himself.
The German center admitted that he thought the Oilers played well in the games so far. He went as far as to say that the team could easily be up 2-1 in the series if the bounces just went their way.
Unfortunately for the team though, that is not their position. Draisaitl has been particularly absent himself as he has failed to record a single point in the finals so far, despite putting up 28 points in his previous 18 playoff games.
At this point, anything the Oilers muster in game four will likely be too little to late. The Panthers simply look like the better team, and they certainly appear to have the better goaltending. Be sure to tune in tomorrow to see if the series will end in a sweep for the first time since 1998.
