The Anaheim Ducks were one of the worst teams in the NHL once again this season. Now things have gotten even worse for the organization as they were just handed a major fine for violating the collective bargaining agreement rules for the offseason.

The announcement came this morning as NHL insider Elliotte Friedman mentioned the drama on his podcast, 32 thoughts. Apparently, the Ducks were forcefully encouraging their players to spend the offseason in Florida. The team wants their players to spend time with coach Mike Barwis, a specialist in professional athlete physical and psychological training.

The @AnaheimDucks got caught and fined $50K for trying to force their players to stay in Florida during the off season.

Why Florida ? ⬇️⬇️⬇️

There is certainly nothing wrong with the team wanting their players to be in their best possible condition when they come to training camp next season. However, the Ducks' efforts on this front apparently went a step too far as the league awarded the team with the 50k fine upon hearing about it.

Pat Verbeek seems like a ball of fun. Trying to force players to move to Florida for the offseason is crazy.

This kind of news should be regarded as quite troubling for a Ducks team that has not found much success on the ice in recent years. Similarly, they have had plenty of off-ice drama as well, including their handling of young star Trevor Zegras. As such, it should be rather interesting to see how long Verbeek lasts as general manager for the team.
