Today the Boston Bruins have made a major move as the NHL season approaches as they have signed Tyler Johnson to a player tryout contract.

This evening multiple reports are confirming the Boston Bruins will be adding firepower up front by signing Tyler Johnson to a player tryout. The Bruins have been looking to add depth to their forward group for the past couple of seasons now and do so with this move.

Over the last 3 seasons, Tyler Johnson has been the veteran leader guiding the Chicago Blackhawks through their rebuild. During those 3 seasons, he was a consistent 30-point player even while struggling with health issues.

Of course, during his prime with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Tyler Johnson was a spectacular top-six forward who peaked at 72 points. He will provide yet another veteran presence in Boston and an offensive weapon in the middle-six of the lineup.

The big question will be whether or not Tyler Johnson can stay healthy through the season. If he can then this could be an absolute steal of a signing at the end of the day. Tyler Johnson of course will need to make the roster during preseason as this is only a tryout contract but if he shows the level of play he can peak at he should make the roster.
