CEO goes nuts and places a $150k bet on the Stanley Cup Playoffs
The Edmonton Oilers are one of the hottest teams in the NHL over the second half of the regular season. Now Barstool Sports CEO Dave Portnoy is so convinced that they will win the Stanley Cup that he placed a massive bet on them.
The sports media empire figurehead made the post on X yesterday, proclaiming his belief in the Oilers this season. Given the roster the Oilers have and how well they played in the second half of the season, it is easy to see why anyone would believe in the team enough to make a bet like this.
The NHL PICK IS IN. #dkpartner
Portnoy has been on a bit of a gambling spree lately, also placing bets on golfer Scottie Scheffler and the Boston Celtics of the NBA.
The Oilers are not the odds-on favorites to win the Stanley Cup this year according to BetMGM. However, they are tied with the Colorado Avalanche for the fourth best odds at +800. The Carolina Hurricanes lead the way at +650, with the Panthers and Stars close behind at +700 and +750 respectively.
Who you got bringing home the Stanley Cup? 🤔

All of that being said, the NHL playoffs can often be rather random, with favorites often going out early. We will just have to see what is in store for the Oilers this year. Their series against the LA Kings will start on Monday at 7PM PST.
