Marc-Andre Fleury announces he may not be retiring this year
It has been widely speculated that this will be Marc-Andre Fleury's last year in the NHL but the future hall-of-famer may not be done quite yet.
At many points this season, it has been speculated that Marc-Andre Fleury is playing in his final year. At 39 years old, Fleury is in his 20th NHL season and has reduced his role to a backup.
Despite this, he is still a more than capable goaltender posting a 2.85 GAA and a .899 sv% for the Minnesota Wild while not having a strong team in front of him.
In a recent interview, Fleury revealed that he may not be done in the NHL quite yet.
«The door is more open today for a return than it was in September or October" - Marc-Andre Fleury
Fleury later went on to show how he may want to continue to play with the Minnesota Wild.
«I'd like to sit down with (Wild GM Bill Guerin) and have a chat with him. I want to know what he thinks. What are the plans for the Wild? What are his options? What does he think about me? Am I still an asset for the team?"
Fleury was candid in explaining how he knows he may not have a role with the Wild next season as they have a Top goaltending prospect in Jesper Wallstedt.
"We also have another good young goalie in the American Hockey League in (Jesper) Wallstedt. He's been playing in (the AHL) for two years now. I'll need to know Bill's plans."
Bill Guerin also commented on potentially bringing Fleury back, potentially as a mentor to Jesper Wallstedt.
«I'm more than open to the possibility of seeing him coming back for another season, 100%,» he said. «We'll talk about it in the next few days. He's still having a good season. I think he's still got hockey in him if he wants. There's still some gas left in his tank.»
Hopefully Fleury and the Wild can reach an agreement as Fleury has earned the possibility of returning for a final season with Minnesota.
