The Toronto Maple Leafs have been very active this off-season, and after loading up their blue line, a major trade involving Timothy Liljegren could be coming.
Following the disappointing playoff showing against the Boston Bruins, the Toronto Maple Leafs made it a clear plan to bolster their blue line this off-season, and they've done so with the signings of Chris Tanev, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Jani Hakanpaa, while also re-signing Timothy Liljegren to a two-year deal.
Now, new reports have surfaced from insider Chris Johnston that suggests the latter may not remain in Toronto despite the recent extension.
«We'll see if Timothy Liljegren maybe still gets traded. I know he was signed to a two-year extension, but I don't think you can entirely rule out a trade in his circumstance yet. They're still going to keep chipping away at the roster.»
With the likes of Simon Benoit, Jake McCabe and Morgan Rielly already in Toronto, there's suddenly a log-jam in Toronto, and given Liljegren's age and upside as a puck moving defenseman, he could get them good value on the trade market. This isn't a guarantee from Johnston, but given how tuned in to the Maple Leafs he is, it's a good sign that a move is coming soon, and if the Leafs can find more scoring depth up front, they're a good chance to go deep in the playoffs next season.
