Craig Berube was recently hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper has commented on Berube's coaching skills.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have made headlines recently for firing Sheldon Keefe and subsequently hiring Craig Berube, a former Stanley Cup winning coach.
Recently rival head coach Jon Cooper took some time to speak on the Maple Leafs moves. He spoke highly of Sheldon Keefe's work with the Leafs.
"Honestly, I thought Sheldon Keefe did a heck of a job there. We played him the last two years in the playoffs and they were a hard team. But Craig will be a different voice for them." - Jon Cooper on Sheldon Keefe
He then expanded on his thoughts on Berube as a coach and what he expects from the Leafs moving forward.
"I have a solid friendship with him. I hate when these guys come into our division and I'm buddies with them. But I think he's a hell of a coach. I think he gets the best out of his players." - Jon Cooper
"He's an honest coach. If fans of the team want to get the most out of their players and have them... I know the way he's going to play and it's going to be hard to play against. But the one thing he'll make sure he gets out of the guys is an honest effort. That's what Craig does." - Jon Cooper
The Leafs already have a rivalry with the Lightning and with Berube demanding more physical play out of his guys, we could see the rivalry reach a new level moving forward.
