Maple Leafs Promising Prospect Nikita Grebyonkin Named Youngest Captain of KHL's Metallourg Magnitogorsk
The Toronto Maple Leafs saw potential in Nikita Grebyonkin and drafted him 135th in the 2022 draft. Today, he's made headlines by becoming the youngest captain ever for Metallourg Magnitogorsk in the KHL.
Already having the "C" on his jersey at 20 years old marks is significant, especially for a team that has been around for almost 70 years.
"Big news in regard to Grebyonkin wearing the C for Metallurg today. Earning a letter this young, he's got real potential. Hope he can make the jump and play with the Marlies. #LeafsForever"
It's worth mentioning that Evgeny Malkin, who played for the Pittsburgh Penguins, also took on the captaincy for this team during the 2013 lockout.
This season, the young forward has scored 39 points in 66 games, including 18 goals. With his KHL contract ending after this season, many believe he will come to North America soon. With only two games left in his season, his addition could be a game-changer for the Marlies' playoff hopes.
He even scored a goal in his very first game with the "C." earlier today.
