The 2024 NHL playoffs are now fully underway. Today, the Rangers and Capitals kicked off their series. At the end of the second period, chaos erupted as Trevor Van Riemsdyk started a scrum by going after Kris Kreider.

The Scrum started as both teams were already leaving the ice. Most of the Capitals had already left as they went back to their locker room. However, Van Riemsdyk stayed behind to have a conversation with Rangers forward Kris Kreider. Apparently he wasn't inviting him over for Christmas this year as the situation quickly devolved into a scrum.

Caps players had to come back onto the ice because Trevor Van Riemsdyk was getting into it with the entire Rangers team 😳

Luckily, things didn't get too out of hand as both teams ultimately agreed to drop it as they headed to the locker rooms for intermission. The Capitals certainly weren't feeling great though after they gave up three goals in the middle frame, making their path to victory in this one very difficult.

Trevor van Riemsdyk approached the Rangers as they were leaving the ice and got himself surrounded. A few Caps came back out after leaving the ice. We were real close to this thing exploding between then 2nd and 3rd periods.

The Caps have just a few minutes left to score twice to force overtime. If they don't they will start the series with a 1-0 deficit, not entirely unexpected, given how these teams played in the regular season.
