Yesterday the Tampa Bay Lightning placed right-handed defenseman Andrej Sustr on waivers. The Lightning had hoped to send Sustr to their American Hockey League affiliate, but it appears that won't be occuring, because today the Anaheim Ducks claimed him off waivers.
Ahead of the March 21st trade deadline the Ducks are expected to be rather busy as they have 3 pending unrestricted free agents who are drawing considerable interest. Those players are Hampus Lindhom, Josh Manson and Rickard Rakell.
With the Ducks looking to extend one of Manson or Lindholm the addition of Sustr clearly gives the Ducks insurance if extensions can't be reached.
