Avalanche May Be Cursed After Recent Decision
The Colorado Avalanche have been Stanley Cup contenders for the last several seasons. After their Stanley Cup championship in 2022, the Avs have been looking to add another championship to their trophy case. A decision involving one of their players however may have just cursed the team for the season.
Makar Is Center Stage For NHL 24
Today it was announced that Cale Makar will be on the cover of NHL 24. This is an honor that Makar is well deserving of after being one of the best offensive defensemen in the league. Makar is coming off of a season where he put up 66 points in 60 games and another 5 points in 6 playoff games. He is primed for another big year but a curse associated with the game may hinder his success.
NHL Cover Athletes Curse
The NHL video game is becoming associated with a curse. Many are familiar with the infamous Madden curse and now the Chel video game may have one as well. According to JFresh on Twitter, the team of the cover athlete for the NHL video game does not succeed well in the playoffs.
Congrats to NHL 23 cover athlete Cale Makar
unfortunately only 2 of the past 27 EA NHL cover players have made it past the first round that same season
Only twice a team with a cover athlete has made it out of the first round. One of these times ended in a second-round exit while the other ended in a Stanley Cup Championship. While the curse is most likely just coincidence it will be interesting to see if it holds true in 2023-24 with the Avalanche and Makar.
