Yesterday the trigger was finally pulled and Horvat was shipped to New York to play for the Islanders:
Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the team has acquired F Anthony Beauvillier, C Aatu Raty, and a protected 2023 1st round draft pick from the New York Islanders in exchange for C Bo Horvat. Vancouver Canucks (@Canucks) January 30, 2023
Some people were very happy with the trade from the Canucks perspective, and some weren't. Raty is a former projected first overall pick, who slipped due to attitude problems. They also received a first round pick and a top 6 player who could also be flipped for more assets. It doesn't sound like a bad deal at all, for a player who could in the end could just be a rental for the Islanders.
But now, NHL Insider Kevin Weeks is reporting that the Vancouver Canucks had another offer on the table that was better than what the Islanders offered, but they didn't even listen to the offer:
I'm told from another club that was highly interested and involved in the @Canucks Horvat deal, that Van didn't shop the offer, and locked in on the @NYIslanders package. Well folks @NHL Trade Market is open ! @espn @NHLNetwork @TSNHockey @DKSportsbook #HockeyTwitter Kevin Weekes (@KevinWeekes) January 31, 2023
It was not announced what team this was, but according to Nick Goss of NBC Sports Boston, the Bruins were also heavily in on Horvat:
