Yesterday we saw one of the biggest names on the trade block in Bo Horvat get moved from the Vancouver Canucks to the New York Islanders.

The trade included a top project who was once a projected 1st overall pick, a 1st round pick (protected) and a top 6 player:

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the team has acquired F Anthony Beauvillier, C Aatu Raty, and a protected 2023 1st round draft pick from the New York Islanders in exchange for C Bo Horvat.

Something that was announced by Horvat after the trade though hasn't sat well with Islanders fans after the trade. Horvat stated that there has been no communication between his party and the Islanders regarding an extension, which is a terrifying details for Islanders fans as Horvat is a pending UFA and could leave for nothing at the end of the season.

Something that was just announced today though is that Vancouver Canucks were not giving teams the option to discuss extensions with Horvat and his agent prior to a trade. This was probably a poor move as if there was the guarantee of an extension after the trade, it probably could have commanded a much bigger return for the Canucks, as the team, in this case the Islanders would not be paying for the risk.

One of the sticking points from some teams who were interested in going further down the road on trade talks regarding Horvat was that the Canucks did not give permission to the player's camp to talk extension with other teams."
