It was announced today that Pittsburgh Penguins star defenceman Kris Letang has suffered a stroke.

Hockey players keep themselves in impeccable cardio vascular shape, so it seems a little shocking to hear that athletes can suffer such issues, but surprisingly, this isn't the first time Letang has suffered one.

In 2014, Letang had his first stroke. He went public with his condition, Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) to help raise awareness. He returned to playing just a short 8 weeks after.

NHL Insider Frank Seravalli stated that Letang is feeling better and luckily isn't experiencing any lasting effects.

The team doctors will continue to monitor him and make sure nothing is wrong.

The Pittsburgh Penguins General Manager, Ron Hextall had this to say:

Kris reported symptoms to the training staff on Monday and was immediately taken to the hospital for testing. The test results were shocking to hear, but we are grateful that Kris is doing well. We are thankful to the medical staff and the physicians at UMPC. He is a warrior on the ice, but first and foremost, he is a son, father, husband and friend. His health is our number one priority.

Head coach Mike Sullivan also commented on the situation:
