The Toronto Maple Leafs finished last season with a goaltending tandem of Jack Campbell and Petr Mrazek. Mrazek was traded recently to the Chicago Blackhawks and the Leafs chose not to resign Jack Campbell, but instead to trade for Matt Murray from the Ottawa Senators.
It has now been announced that they will be signing free agent Ilya Samsonov who was not qualified by the Washington Capitals.
Samsonov was supposed to be the future of the Capitals after they decided to let Braden Holtby leave in free agency a few years ago, but after a few years of disappointing stats, the Capitals chose not to resign him and instead head in a different direction in free agency.
