The Boston Bruins have been one of the best teams in the NHL for quite some time now. Over the past two seasons they've hit another level though. Today the team made a unique move when they placed one of their defensemen on waivers.

Bruins Place Defenseman Zboril On Waivers

It was announced today that the team had placed 26-year-old blueliner Jakub Zboril on waivers. Reportedly, the player requested the move himself since he has yet to play a game with the team this year. So far he's spent the year in the AHL where he has 7 assists in 19 games.

On #NHLBruins placing Jakub Zboril on waivers, I'm told the Bruins are accommodating his request to see if another team is interested in giving him an opportunity.

His contract isn't being terminated and he's not going back to Europe.

It sounds like Zboril is committed to playing in the NHL again as Serravalli suggests that he is not going back to Europe. Since he is already in the AHL, this move is unnecessary. It does show however, that the Bruins are willing to make moves with their player's best interests in mind even if it means them leaving the organization. Zboril does not figure to be part of the Bruins plans at this point. That being said, he has shown he can be an effective bottom-pair defenseman in the limited time he's gotten in the league so far.

Zboril will have to hope another team is willing to take him on. Otherwise he will have to wait until the end of the season to get another chance with a new team.
