According to Montreal Canadiens reporter Renaud Lavoie last season Montreal Canadiens General Manager Marc Bergevin had a deal in place that would have seen Sammy Blais become a Montreal Canadiens.
The only hiccup?
The deal involved Habs forward Artturi Lehkonen going in the opposite direction and Lehkonen was set to be a restricted free agent at the end of the season. The Blues spoke to Lehkonen's agent in hopes of getting an extension signed but Lehkonen's refusal to sign an extension eventually nixed the deal.
Apparently the addition of Blais, the Montmagny, Quebec native, was intended to add additional toughness to the Habs playoffs roster. Blais was ultimately dealt by the Blues in the off season for Pavel Buchnevich.
