Bedard, the presumptive 1st overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, currently held by the Chicago Blackhawks, won Multiple awards, including CHL Player of the Year, at the 2023 CHL Awards.
Bedard, who lit up the WHL, one of the three CHL-affiliated leagues, was also awarded as top scorer and top prospect.
Bedard had a whopping 71 Goals and 143 Points in 57 Games for the WHL Regina Pats, the highest total for any Draft Eligible prospect since Petr Nedved in 1990. Bedard's 2.51PPG is also the 2nd highest PPG by a WHL Draft Prospect, tying former NHLer Rob Brown in 85-86. The only other player in the 21st Century with 2PPG was Coyotes prospect Dylan Guenther, who had exactly 2PPG with 24 Points in 12 Games in the COVID shortened 2020-21 Season.
Only a select few Draft Eligibles have won CHL Player of the Year. Former First Overall Picks Connor McDavid (2015), Alexis Lafreniere (2020) & Sidney Crosby have won the award in the past.
Bedard's historic season is one for the record books, along with a legendary World Juniors performance, where Bedard as well had a sensational tournament, breaking Jaromir Jagr's Draft Eligible Points record, as well as leading the tournament as leading in Goals, Assists & Points, and unsurprisingly was named MVP of the Gold Medal winning Canada squad.
Wherever Connor Bedard has played this year, he's won almost everything and all, and is expected to quickly achieve similar results in the NHL, and there's little reason to think he can't.
