Flyers May Attempt To Offer Sheet Young Star
The Flyers could be looking to shake things up this summer by offer sheeting an elite goal scorer but the compensation may be the deal breaker.
Flyers To Offer Sheet Young Star
While the Philadelphia Flyers are near the bottom of the league in terms of team prowess, they look to bolster their team this offseason by offer sheeting a young star who could score 50 goals for them.
Flyers insider Jesse Bell tweeted this out earlier:
This would be a huge move considering Caufield is a top young goal scorer in the league and was on pace for 40 goals on a very poor Montreal team before injuries sidelined him the rest of the season.
How Practical Is It For Caufield To Be Offer Sheeted?
It is practical for some teams to offer sheet Caufield but the Flyers do not seem like the team that should do so. With the Flyers not being close to contending, any offer sheet would give Montreal some very high picks.
If a team that is currently contending were to offer sheet Caufield, they could stomach giving up the high picks and could offer a contract like 10.5x5 which would require 2 first-round picks, a second-round pick, and a third-round pick.
Not many teams would be able to make a move like this but three teams that stick out as being able to make a move like that are Buffalo, Carolina, and Seattle.
