A new post on X has added to the rumors surrounding the impending return of Corey Perry to the NHL. The post from former NHL All-Star and enforcer John Scott has suggested that the Toronto Maple Leafs could be the perfect fit.
The Maple Leafs seem to enter any conversation regarding a high-profile free agent. With the NHL trade deadline approaching the Maple Leafs have been looking to fill several holes on their team. One of the holes Perry could patch up nicely is a mix of depth scoring and toughness.
This season the Toronto Maple Leafs made several additions to their forward group to become harder to play against. The three most notable signings have been Tyler Bertuzzi, Ryan Reaves, and Max Domi. While these three have added a physical element it has come at the cost of offense.
At age 38 Corey Perry is not the player he used to be. Even still before being let go by the Chicago Blackhawks Perry had 9 points in 16 games. If Perry were to sign in Toronto he could potentially bring the mix of offense and grit that the Maple Leafs front office has coveted.
Currently, the Perry sweepstakes is still in its early stages. As Perry begins to have discussions with teams reports will likely increase. Until the Toronto Maple Leafs are ruled out of the running the media and fans will be sure to run wild with the speculation connection the two.
