Gary Bettman's Pride Tape Ban To Be Boycotted By An Entire NHL Team
After the NHL's decision to ban pride tape, they have been widely criticized by players, coaches, and analysts alike, and now it appears one team will boycott the rule in its entirety.
Players and Analysts Voice Displeasure with NHL's Recent Rule Change
The NHL made the decision to ban pride jerseys, along with other special movement jerseys, earlier this offseason. However, they took it a step further this week, banning players from using Pride Tape on their sticks to show their support.
"This decision has stripped clubs of a powerful community outreach tool and removed meaningful support for Special Initiatives, all to protect a select few who do not want to answer any questions about their choices. I hope the NHL reconsiders in order to remain a leader in DEI." - Brain Burke
Zach Hyman was asked about the NHL's decision to ban Pride Tape Scott Laughton says "you'll probably see me with the pride tape on that night anyway."
"If they want to say something, they can." Team Planning to Boycott Tape Ban According to Pride Tape Co-Founder
Now, it appears one NHL team in its entirety is taking steps to boycott the rule. According to the co-founder of Pride Tape, one NHL team placed an order for an entire box of Pride Tape after the NHL announced the ban.
«According to McLean, one NHL team even phoned his office on Tuesday to place an order for an entire case of Pride Tape.»
It appears the league will face immense pressure from the players to reverse its decision. We will see whether Bettman complies or not.
