Hot mic catches Linesman cussing out player after he hit him with the puck
It takes a lot of guts to be a referee or a linesman. You put yourself on the line out there knowing that when you make a call 15,000+ are probably going to hate you. It's a high stress job, but people do it because they love the game.
It also isn't the safest job, you're out there in minimal equipment, skating around on two blades, trying to avoid 10 other skaters out there with a weapon in their hands and feet, shooting around a hard piece of rubber at over 100 miles per hour. Sounds insane when you really think about it.
We've seen on many occasions the referee accidentally getting in the way of something and ending up very injured, or even in the news lately, getting violently assaulted by an upset player on the ice who wasn't a fan of the call they made.
In a game recently, linesman Kiel Murchison was in the way of a puck getting dumped in during a game between the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins, and when he got hit with the puck, his anger got the better of him and he let out a loud cuss at the player who shot the puck:
