The Pittsburgh Penguins are trying to lock down their core for the future but one of their star players has rejected a massive contract.

Insider Reveals Rejected $50 Million Contract

Currently, the Pittsburgh Penguins' reign of dominance is coming to an end as they sit outside of a playoff spot and their talent is all aging. They have one star on an expiring deal, Jake Guentzel, and it seems like he will not sign with the Penguins after rejecting a deal in the ballpark of $50 million.

Insider Nick Kypreos revealed that Guentzel's agent and Kyle Dubas have been negotiating a deal and things are not looking too hot.

"My understanding is that there might have been something offered to him in the ballpark of $50 million, $8.5million x 6, and as of now he's not signed let's just put it that way," - Nick Kypreos

Insider Frank Seravalli also spoke on the issue and it is clear that the two sides will probably not reach an agreement.

"That offer sounds short on term and short on dollars. You want max as much as you can get because this is your big boy contract, this is the big one that he's gonna earn for his career." - Frank Seravalli

Guentzel is currently second on the Penguins in scoring with 49 points through 46 games which is only behind Sidney Crosby who has 50 points in 46 games. If Guentzel and the Penguins cannot reach a deal, it seems like he will have to be moved for a massive haul at the trade deadline.

As seen on Hockey Feed - Guentzel turns down massive offer from the Penguins.
