After Matthew Tkachuk informed the Calgary Flames he had no intentions of signing a contract, Tkachuk was immediately placed on the trade block. Less than 3 days later, Tkachuk is now heading to the sunny beaches of Florida.
According to Insider Frank Seravalli, Tkachuk has been traded to the Florida Panthers.
Tkachuk immediately signed a MASSIVE extension with the Panthers.
Matthew Tkachuk traded to Florida Panthers $76 mill over 8 years
The Flames received a huge return in exchange for Tkachuk.
Full trade, per sources:
To #FlaPanthers:
Matthew Tkachuk (extension in place)
To #Flames:
Jonathan Huberdeau, MacKenzie Weegar, Cole Schwindt and a 1st round pick. The 1st round pick will be in 2025 or 2026 as the Panthers previously traded their 2024 pick to the Philadelphia Flyers in the Claude Giroux deal.
Huberdeau actually outscored Tkachuk last year by 11 points, but is 4 years older than Tkachuk.
It will be interesting to start seeing some of the reactions of Panthers players as Huberdeau was a huge part of the organization.
