A Substantial Ask
Jake Guentzel, as reported by The Athletic, is asking for a substantial pay raise beyond the $6 million he's set to earn next season. The 28-year-old forward is reportedly aiming for a long-term contract with an average yearly value surpassing $9 million.
At Home or Elsewhere
The primary dilemma for Dubas lies in determining whether Guentzel could fetch such a sum from another team. The answer, it appears, is quite possibly yes. Guentzel, who will likely be one of the most sought-after free agents post the 2023-24 season, has great bargaining power with his impressive record of scoring 40 goals two years ago and another 36 last season.
The Big Problem
The pressing query around Guentzel is his ability to sustain this performance level, especially with NHL superstar Sidney Crosby frequently sharing the ice with him. If Dubas fails to meet Guentzel's demands, this could soon become a reality.
