It's not very often you see a team trade a young 40 goal scorer, but we've seen it happen this year with the Blackhawks trading 24 year old Alex Debrincat, and we saw it happen two season ago when the Winnipeg Jets traded Patrik Laine to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Pierre-Luc Dubois.
Recently there has been a lot of chatter regarding a Dubois trade because of his unwillingness to sign a long-term deal in Winnipeg and wanting to test free agency next season.
Apparently the Quebec native has his sights set on playing for the Montreal Canadiens. Dubois is currently a restricted Free Agent and it seems like it's only a matter of time before we see him in a Habs uniform.
Yesterday his ''super agent'' Pat Brisson, appeared on TVA Sports and admitted that Dubois would love to play for his childhood's favourite team.
Montreal is a city he would probably I can talk about it because he doesn't have a contract at the moment - he's a restricted free agent. Montreal is a place, a city he'd like to play in. That's all I can say about that.
According to the Athletic's Apren Basu, Dubois went to Montreal for the 2022 NHL entry draft because he was expecting to be dealt to Montreal over that weekend.
It's been reported that the Habs tried to send 3 players to Winnipeg in exchange for Dubois, but the Jets have declined them all. The deal is currently stalled as the Jets are requesting Nick Suzuki from the Habs and they are unwilling to move their young star center.
Dubois is only 24 and had 28 goals and 60 points last season. If the Habs can find a way to make a trade work and still retain Nick Suzuki, they will have one of the best 1-2 punches at center in the league for a long time.
