Alex Pietrangelo became a two-time Stanley Cup winner last night, as the Vegas Golden Knights won it all. Who would've guessed that underneath all of the joy that comes with winning the cup, Pietrangelo was hiding a heartbreaking story regarding his family and retirement?
Pietrangelo Almost Retired
Following his Stanley Cup victory last night, Alex Pietrangelo shared an incredibly sad story about his family. According to Pietrangelo, he almost retired six months ago following a serious medical emergency with his daughter, that left her unable to eat, talk, or walk.
It's understandable that Pietrangelo would want to spend as much time with his family given the circumstances. We all know what decision he made in the end, but after his second Stanley Cup win, retirement could be on the table once again.
Happy Ending
As Pietrangelo lifted the cup above his head last night, his 4-year-old daughter was in attendance. The man who'd contemplated retiring six months earlier was now sharing this special moment with his daughter who he almost gave it all up for.
We're happy that Evelyn Pietrangelo is happy and healthy, and that the young girl could witness her father's great accomplishment last night. Congrats on the win, Alex!
