The Vegas Golden Knights won the Stanley Cup in last night's Game 5 - but the night almost began in tragedy. Roughly five hours before puck drop, reports came out that Las Vegas Metro police had arrested a man who'd made threats about a mass shooting during the game at T-Mobile Arena.
The suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Matthew DeSavio, was arrested over these threats, which local police had found on his Facebook account. Here's an excerpt from one of those messages (including a reference to the mass shooting in Las Vegas on October 1, 2017):
DeSavio had also been accused of stalking the person who reported him for close to 10 years, and his arrest took place while visiting that person's business, according to documents obtained by Las Vegas' 8 News Now. He'd previously been arrested last November for posting threats that he would blow up Paradise, NV - the Vegas-adjacent town home to the Las Vegas Strip and T-Mobile Arena - onto his Facebook page.
Luckily for everyone, no lives were lost and any possibility of a scary scene was averted, and the Golden Knights were crowned Stanley Cup Champions following a dominant 9-3 score to take the series in five games.
