The NHL has long struggled with the debate surrounding head injuries, especially when it comes to acknowledging the serious long-term effects that can come with them. While Gary Bettman and the NHL have repeatedly denied that there is a correlation between serious brain injuries and hitting/fighting in the NHL, the data seems to suggest otherwise.

Reporter Exposes NHL

Widely respected NHL investigative journalist Rick Westhead recently posted some of the findings of an ongoing study regarding CTE in the NHL, and it's quite shocking.

This is a massive blow to Bettman's claims that CTE has any relation to repeated head trauma, especially head trauma suffered via fights or big hits. How Bettman can continue to make these outlandish claims with no evidence to back them up is ridiculous.

NHL Legend Diagnosed With CTE

Montreal Canadiens star Henri Richard has now formally been diagnosed posthumously with CTE, likely from his playing days in the NHL. Richard was the brother of NHL legend Maurice "Rocket" Richard, and was often referred to as the "Pocket Rocket".

Richard's own son spoke on the issue of CTE, saying that it's a disease that absolutely exists outside of the realm of American Football.

Bettman has some serious explaining to do.
