We are almost a full week into NHL training camps and we've been seeing lots of pre-season hockey, but one thing we haven't seen yet is Jason Robertson skating in a stars uniform.
Robertson is currently an RFA and his camp and the Dallas Stars do not seem to be anywhere near close to a contract. Robertson is one of only 4 RFA's still available, but he had more points last season than the other 3 combined.
Robertson is coming off a season where he scored 41 goals and 79 points in 74 games, and now he wants to be paid as such. He has done nothing but score since entering the NHL and there is no reason not to believe that he can continue to do so. This was only his second year in the NHL, but in his rookie year he managed to score 17 goals 45 points in 51 games.
While it has been reported that the two parties are in constant contact, per NHL insider Pierre Lebrun, they are not close to a deal.
While the Dallas Stars may not be winning to offer Jason Robertson a massive contract, it sounds like another team might be:
According to sources, the #Sabres have serious interest in acquiring RFA F Jason Robertson from the Dallas Stars
Robertson, 23, has had contract talks stall with the Stars over the past few months, and the Sabres have recently kicked tires on the situation with serious intent.
The Sabres have the cap space to get a deal done, and also the draft picks to do an offer sheet. It will be interesting to see how this scenario plays out, and if the Stars are really willing to give up a 23 year old 40 goal scorer.
