John Tortorella is one of the winningest coaches in NHL history and is very well respect across the league. He has coached over 1450 games in the NHL and with the Philadelphia Flyers well outside a playoff spot, he chose a bizarre strategy for tonights game.
Instead of being the coach tonight, like he was hired to be, he will instead be watching from the press box with the Flyers new General Manager Daniel Briere:
John Tortorella will not be behind the bench tonight for PHI @ OTT. Brad Shaw will run the bench.
Tortorella decided to watch from the press box with Danny Briere to 1) get the perspective of watching from up top and 2) give Shaw the chance to coach the bench.
Brad Shaw will also be answering questions, postgame, so tune in if you want to hear his perspective.
Obviously the direction the team wanted to go this season in former General Manager Chuck Fletcher's mind did not happen, so this is an opportunity for Briere and Tortorella to watch and discuss players and make some decisions on the future of the Philadelphia Flyers.
