The National Hockey League does everything they can to make it the best league in the world and one thing they are very focused on is being welcoming to all.
This season, one of the big statements made by the NHL and their teams has been Pride Night, where teams will wear pride coloured jerseys for warm ups to show their support.
This has sparked a lot of controversy with NHL fans and recently some players. There have been some players who have refused to wear their pride jersey due to christian beliefs, and in the case of some Russian players, they've refused to wear them due to it being against the law back in Russia.
Every time a player comes out stating they will not be wearing their pride jersey, it sparks a huge debate on whether the NHL truly is ''welcoming''.
Pk Subban who had a tremendous career, and since retirement he has become a broadcaster.
He has recently made a statement regarding the Pride Nights in the NHL:
In an interview with: Reuters.com Subban states:
We cannot push everyone to be an activist, we need to be very careful, I feel people pick and choose what they want to talk about and I don't like it when we put the onus on athletes to be activists. "I'm not saying it is right or wrong to wear the (Pride) jersey, we have just got to be very careful how we push players to do things.
