Last Friday we saw a blockbuster trade go down between the Florida Panthers and Calgary Flames which included two 100+ point scorers in Matthew Tkachuk and Jonathan Huberdeau.
After Johnny Gaudreau left the Flames in free agency, it was rumoured that Matthew Tkachuk was a little disgruntled. The Restricted Free Agent told the Flames he would not re-sign with the teams and instead gave them a list of teams he would accept a trade to. One of those teams was where he grew up, the St. Louis Blues, where his dad is considered basically royalty.
The Florida Panthers eventually won the sweepstakes with an offer that the Flames just simply couldn't refuse, but the Blues were heavily in the fight for Tkachuk as well.
St. Louis Blues Insider Jeremy Rutherford revealed what he thinks the deal was that the Blues offered for Tkachuk.
But it appears that it never got that far because offers from St. Louis and Carolina didn't measure up to what Calgary eventually received from Florida. One source said the Blues' proposal included Vladimir Tarasenko, Marco Scandella and a high draft pick; the team officially declined comment. We had also seen a rumour that the Blues offered Jordan Kyrou, Torey Krug and a first round pick. This would have been a lot more intriguing for the Flames in my opinion, but the Flames couldn't pass on the opportunity to land another 100 point scorer.
