On his recent 32 Thoughts Podcast Elliotte Friedman talked about several trade rumors that are heating up.
The most interesting nugget came regarding the Carolina Hurricanes. According to Friedman the Hurricanes are prepared to be without main goaltender Frederik Andersen for the rest of the season.
A few frontrunners that the Hurricanes might consider have started to emerge.
After Friedman dropped this piece of information people began to speculate who could be a good fit. Three names have come up more than any other in discussions. These players are Eric Comrie, Jake Allen, and Alex Lyon. All three of these players are in a 3 goalie rotation in the NHL.
Eric Comrie is in Buffalo with young standouts Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Devon Levi. He is only 28 and has shown flashes of high-level play in limited roles. Comrie could be the toughest to trade for considering these factors and the sub-par play of Devon Levi in his first full season.
Jake Allen was once the starter in Saint Louis as well as Montreal. He is still getting a lot of games in Montreal but is the oldest of the goalies in the Montreal trio. If the Canadiens trust their young goalies they could look to use Allen to improve other areas of the roster.
Finally, Alex Lyon shares the net with Ville Husso and James Reimer. Lyon is the most unproven as he has limited time as the main guy. However, he does have the best numbers of any of the options and has been playing for a good team in Detroit.
Regardless of who the Hurricanes decide to go after they need to make a move. Their current duo of Pyotr Kochetkov and Antti Raanta cannot be the answer as playoff time comes closer.
