Jets Affiliate Makes Hockey History With First Female Player
During their ECHL contest last night the ECHL affiliate of the Winnipeg Jets the Norfolk Admirals had a goaltender get hurt. The goalie was unable to return to the game. This meant that Emergency Backup (EBUG) Goalie Mariah Fujimagari entered the fold as the backup goalie for the Admirals.
Fujimagari did not end up getting into the game as the only way she could was due to an injury to the backup goalie. However, it was the first time the Winnipeg Jets had a female dress for a game in franchise history.
The former PHF and NWHL goalie also attended ECHL training camp with the Kalamazoo Wings earlier in the season. However, it was the first time the Winnipeg Jets had a female dress for a game in franchise history.
As the season continues along it will be interesting to see if Fujimagari can get into a game.
