We have just learned of some more unfortunate news today about a young boy in our hockey family. Vsevolod Malkov was just a regular 12-year-old who loved hockey. Tragically at practice on Thursday Malkov was hit in the chest with a puck, which unfortunately led to his passing.
The unfortunate incident was a harmless looking play where the defenceman from the opposing team took a shot that struck Malkon in the chest. You can see in the video below that Malkov bent over in pain before falling to the ice. Malkov was rushed to the hospital but the doctors were not able to save him.
Sport24.ru reported that, Vsevolod Malkov was hit in the heart area which caused the damage.
Below is the video of the incident.
A criminal investigation had been opened into the incident, but no charges are expected to be laid.
Vsevolod's father shared the following:
I do not see any culprits in this, to blame someone, I think, makes no sense. This was purely an accident. It was a common practice, they were playing a minority: five to attack, four to defend. There was a shot, a defenseman's flick from the blue line, as I was told, I was not present, because parents are not allowed to practice. The puck hit the heart area and there was a cardiac arrest. Further there was resuscitation, but, unfortunately, without success.
The hockey school has offered to pay for funeral services and support for the family.
