Despite other leagues moving away from this, in recent years, the NHL have continued to put on a massive awards night full of glitz and glamour, but now, that may be done.

Elliotte Friedman reveals massive change incoming

On his latest episode of 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Friedman revealed that the NHL are likely to scrap the Awards night at the end of the season in favour of a different approach.

Friedman on 32TP says he doesn't expect there to be much of an award show this year, they're talking about copying the NBA, where they award the trophy during the playoffs, either on game day or the day before, then the player gets rewarded with a big ovation in front of the fans

According to the report, the NHL could look to follow the NBA model, which rewards players with major awards in front of their home fans during the playoffs, giving them a much more satisfactory ovation in front of their fans rather than other players.

Ultimately, this was an event that was once well thought of, but in recent years the viewership and the luster of the event have certainly died down, and if this is the way the league is going, it would be a fantastic move.
