Because of the new bench boss, the Maple Leafs' forward lines could have an entirely new look this coming season. This could mean that one of the team's major stars will likely be demoted.
Recently, Sportsnet's Maple Leafs reporter Luke Fox wrote a column on the possibility of Tavares being moved to the third line and the second unit on the PP.
If this does happen, it would leave Berube with the chance of moving one of Marner or Nylander to the second-line center spot and spreading out the skill.
This could end up working out very well for the Maple Leafs, especially with the chemistry that Matthews and Domi showed last season. It spreads the talent out throughout the lineup and helps strengthen the bottom six.
If Toronto could get stronger down the middle, it could give the team a better chance of finding success. Then you can mix in Easton Cowan, Matthew Knies, Bobby McMann, and Pontus Holmberg and sure up the entire roster.
Starting the season using this strategy could help the team limit the number of weak offensive lines that they have on a nightly basis, leaving only the fourth line as the true checking line.
