BREAKING: Contending Team Claims Starting Goaltender Off Waivers
The Carolina Hurricanes have had a problem with goalie depth since Freddie Andersen went on LTIR with a blood condition that was discovered this season by team doctors. Now they may have a solution in net.
Hurricanes Claim Martin Off Waivers From Columbus Blue Jackets
Yesterday, the Columbus Blue Jackets placed goaltender Spencer Martin on
waivers.
Today, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed that the Carolina Hurricanes claimed him, so he will be on his way to Carolina where he must stay with the NHL club.
Martin has an .887 save percentage and 3.65 goals-against-average this season with Columbus in 13 appearances. While his numbers are rather abysmal, the team in front of him has been one of the worst in the league. He should be able to put up stronger numbers behind a much stronger Carolina defense, but still don't expect him to be taking over the starting role any time soon.
