After weeks of uncertainty and whispers around the Blue Jackets, their starting goaltender has now made it official and requested to be traded.
Elvis Merzelikins asks out of Columbus
The Columbus Blue Jackets found a steal in the 2014 draft when they landed Elvis Merzelikins in the third round, and since joining the team, he's been a solid contributor in net.
However, after frustrations became clear from both sides, the 29-year old has now officially requested a trade from the only NHL team he's ever known.
In his postgame media availability, Elvis Merzlikins said that he requested a trade. #CBJ There was a sense in Columbus that this request was coming, and after posting a .906 save percentage and a 3.15 GAA through 174 games, he could no doubt be a cheap option for the goaltender-needy contenders out there.
