Canadian media trying to slander Ovi to protect Gretzky's record

At the beginning of the season there were questions as to whether or not Alexander Ovechkin would break. Wayne Gretzky's all-time goal record. But Ovechkin has gone a long way to silence any critics and it no longer seems like if he breaks a record l, but when he does.

Ovechkin is currently off to his most productive start in his NHL career and currently leads the league in points sitting ahead of both Connor McDavid and Leon Draisiatl. Last night Ovechkin scored his 21st goal of the season tying Dave Andreychuk on the all-time list. In the process he also tied the NHL record for all time powerplay goals (274).
But at least one Canadian media outlet seems hell-bent on trying to discredit Ovechkin's amazing accomplishment.
The Score media outlet has decided that Ovechkin's 24 overtime goals is what sets him apart from the Great One.
This entire article declined to mention that that goalies in Ovechkin's era posted a save percentage of approximately .912 while Gretzky's goalies averaged around .885 a significant difference in quality of competition.
