Many NHL fans were looking forward to the opportunity to watch Connor Bedard play at the NHL All-Star game this year as the rookie center has been one of the more exciting players in the NHL to watch this season. Unfortunately, that will no longer be the case as Bedard recently suffered an injury that will prevent him from participating.

Bedard To Miss All-Star Game After Suffering Fractured Jaw

The 18-year-old is out with an injury after he fractured his jaw on a hit by Brendan Smith during his last game against the New jersey Devils. Blackhawks Head Coach Luke Richardson has updated us, saying that there is no timeline for his return yet as doctors want to give the wound a few days to heal on its own before they take a closer look at him.

Luke Richardson on whether they Blackhawks have set a recovery timeline for Connor Bedard's fractured jaw:

«No. Still just evaluating how he's doing and settling down. It's swollen, so the doctors are giving it a few days to see how it settles.»

With the All-Star game less than a month away, it stands to reason that Bedard will miss the event regardless of his prognosis. That being the case, the NHL had to name a replacement for Bedard and they chose an unlikely candidate.

NHL Selects Jason Dickinson To Replace Bedard At All-Star Game

The replacement is none other than Jason Dickinson. The 28-year-old has had a steady NHL career to this point as he just played in his 400th career game.

However, he's never been a high profile player as he's been in a bottom six if not fourth-line role for most of his career. This season though, he has had an offensive explosion thanks to an increased opportunity on a Blackhawks team void of forward talent. In 39 games this year, Dickinson has 13 goals and 19 points.
