The New York Islanders have struggled with inconsistency all season. Despite the inconsistent play, the Islanders find themselves just four points out of a playoff spot. Despite being in the race the Islander made a major move firing Lane Lambert and hiring Patrick Roy.
With this move, the Islanders proved willing to make drastic moves to right the ship. Today a new report has indicated huge moves could be on the way for the Islanders. In particular, three key veterans have been reportedly put on the trade block by GM Lou Lamoriello.
A new report from Andrew Fantucchio of NYI Hockey Now has revealed that three integral players from the Islanders have been put on the trade block by the team. Two forwards and a goalie are reportedly being shopped.
First up is young forward Simon Holmstrom. Holmstrom a 2019 First Round Pick has struggled to find his way in the NHL to this point. He still has a lot of potential and could be used to land a major contributor in a trade.
Next up is veteran forward Brock Nelson. Nelson is having a solid season with 38 points in 49 games. Despite his great play his cap hit of six million has some questioning whether the Islanders will take advantage of his high trade value at the moment to get out of that contract.
Finally, goaltender Semyon Varlamov has been linked to trades as well. Varlamov has only played 16 games this season but is a veteran goalie with playoff experience. In a year where the goalie market is thin Varlamov could fetch a good return if the Islanders decide to move on.
As the trade deadline approaches these will be the names to watch when it comes to activity involving the New York Islanders.
