The other day when the Minnesota Wild resigned future hall of fame goaltender Marc-andre Fleury to a contract extension, it was reported that goaltender Cam Talbot and his camp were not too happy and were in an 'argument' with Wild General Manager Bill Guerin. Many believed that Talbot's agent was demanding a trade and it seemed like Talbot felt that he was no longer welcome in Minnesota with the signing of Fleury, but according to this NHL insider, that was not the case at all.
According to Michael Russo of the Athletic, the conversation that Cam Talbot's agent had with Guerin on the draft floor that got heated was not a trade request, it was him demanding an extension and a raise for his client.
The 35 year old goaltender is in the final year of a contract that pays him $3,666,667, and for a team like the Wild who are now suffering from the Ryan Suter and Zach Parise buyouts, they don't exactly have the money to be giving a possible backup goaltender a large raise.
Neither side were pulling their punches when talking about their feelings and if this is seriously about talking about an extension, this was not the way to do it on Talbot's side.
