Bad news could be in store for the Golden Knights. Over the last couple of days we have heard different stories coming from various sources regarding Robin Lehner and the Vegas Golden Knights that have been very conflicting. We have heard from media sources that Lehner has decided to undergo surgery and is done for the season, whereas we have heard head coach Peter Deboer state that Lehner is taking some maintenance days and is expected back at practice and suiting up for the game Sunday.
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, it seems that the answer neither, or both, depending on how you want to view the situation. Friedman shared the latest details on the current situation and made things very clear that Lehner is not happy with his situation in Vegas right now.
"So this is what we can tell you," said Friedman on Saturday night's NHL broadcast. "There were 2 reports yesterday that he's out for the rest of the year and having surgery, and I had heard the same rumors. Vegas has disputed that and today when he didn't practice they said that they were hopeful that he would play tomorrow night or be in the lineup tomorrow night. Nobody's talking but this is the best I can piece together. I think what's happened is Lehner, who's playing hurt, was upset at some of the criticism he was receiving and also being pulled the other night and I believed he informed the Golden Knights on Thursday night that he was going to have surgery and shut it down."
With the head coach having such little faith in Lehner right now, would it still make sense for the team to want him in the lineup? If the Knights make the playoffs, would Lehner improve their chances at a cup? They seem to think so. Friedman also said:
"I think in the last 24 to 48 hours there have been conversations between Lehner, the team, his agents, and just everybody involved trying to see if there was a solution to all this that would have him in the lineup," said Friedman. "I guess we're gonna find out tomorrow night and we'll see for sure where all this is going but that's the best information that I can piece together for you today."
